Sell memberships

Monthly or yearly plans that bill automatically and include a set number of sessions.

Creating a plan

  1. In the sidebar, open Customers, then the Memberships tab. Admins and Managers can see it.
  2. Click + New plan.
  3. Fill in the name, a description, the price, whether it bills every month or every year, and how many sessions it includes each period.
  4. Under Covers, tick the session types members can book with it.
  5. Click Create plan.
  6. To start selling, turn on Visible to customers at the top of the Plans tab. This one switch covers all your plans.

You can't change the billing period or the session types a plan covers after you create it. Once a plan has members, its price and sessions are locked too. To change any of these, archive the plan and create a new one. Existing members stay on the old plan.

How billing works

  • Members pay by card through your Stripe account, and are charged automatically each month or year.
  • Each payment adds that period's sessions. Unused sessions don't roll over to the next period.
  • Members can book one session a day with their membership.
  • Slate emails members when they join, when they renew and if a payment fails.

Selling memberships

Open the Website tab for a page link, a ready-made Become a member button for your website, and a sign-in link for members. Members sign in with a link sent to their email, so there are no passwords to forget.

What members can do themselves

From their account, members can cancel (it ends at the end of the period they've paid for), resume, update their card and view their invoices. At checkout they click Use my sessions to book with their membership.

What you can do

On the Members tab, open a member to Add or remove sessions, End membership (now or at the end of the period), or Resume membership. Each change asks for a reason, so you have a record.

You can't sign a customer up to a membership from the dashboard. Send them the page link from the Website tab.
